Based on a true story, The Amityville Horror tells the story of a man driven by the supernatural to murder his family. Everyone of my generation has seen this one, and it’s still effective as a horror movie today. Some of the classic haunted house features are present, from the little girl’s invisible friend to the rocking chair that moves by itself. Some of the most frightening scenes use no special effects at all, such as the house’s obvious attempt to thwart communication with the family priest by filling the telephone with static. Creepy throughout and with an exciting finale, The Amityville Horror is worth repeat viewings.
