Thursday, September 2nd, 2010New camera
Monday, August 30th, 2010My wife has the big SLR, but I wanted something to replace the small Canon SD500 that I broke when Tyler, Rick and I went out driving quad runners across the desert. (You can read about that adventure here.) I liked the SD500, so I got a newer model in the same line, the SD1300.
I really like the camera so far, although I’ve only just started to play with it. 12 megapixels, something-x zoom, etc.
Here are a few test pictures I just took under poor lighting conditions..
- Foster the kitten
- My (soon to be ex) car
- Classic Bobby-Boy
- Chico the big dog
- Sleepy Foster
The world lost a tough guy…
Monday, July 12th, 2010Written by Monica:
Martin, Tyler and I wanted everyone to know that earlier today we lost Cleo the cat. Cleo has been sick for the past year. I made a quality of life appointment for him today and the vet agreed that Cleo was very ill, and he was not responding to numerous medications. I made the decision that life in a cage was not for the once vibrant kitten that climbed curtains and towered shower stalls and cabinets. Cleo passed in typical Cleo fashion, growling at the vet and hissing at 1:00 pm July 12th. There will never be a unique cat like Cleo again. Cleo we will love and miss you.
For my part I’ll remember this as Cleo’s ultimate triumph: Years ago Monica was outside talking to our neighbor and Cleo decided to walk along the top of the curtain at our back patio door. Cleo falls from the top of the curtain, and hits the door lock on the way down. Monica called me at work and I had to drive home because Cleo locked her out of the house. He was a very bad kitten, but a great cat.
Best in the country?
Saturday, April 10th, 2010Back in my Army days I used to eat at Five Guys often. That was the original store in Virginia… Now it’s over 15 years later and I came across this article in Inc. magazine. (Well worth reading.) After reading the article I decided to check and see if Five Guys ever made it to Arizona. To my delight there is one in Mesa, and so Tyler and I got in the car. It’s rarely given, but I am officially granting Five Guys the Colello.org Excellence in Burgers Award.
Garden project
Sunday, April 4th, 2010The official Easter weekend project was completed in record time this year. I built an 8×4 raised garden bed out of redwood and I did it in less than 3 hours. Monica bought a bunch of dirt and veggies to plant, and we’re off and running.
